Scandinavia: Update

Wigtown, Galloway

As it has been rather a few weeks since my last post, I thought it about time to give you a brief update, considering there are only a few days remaining before we return home. Our travels have been packed with various activities, some disappointing, but most enjoyable.

Scandinavia: The Cruise

Having boarded the ship for our cruise down the Norwegian coast, life slowed down and revolved around meal times with regularity. The days blurred into each other, the common theme being non-stop stunning scenery. In this post I, therefore, describe various aspects of the cruise rather than a sequential description of our journey.

Scandinavia: In Transit

Our home for five nights

I concluded my previous post by suggesting there would not be much to report due to us being in transit to the start of our cruise. However, a run-in with the Norwegian military changed that.

Scandinavia: Copenhagen

Our visit to Copenhagen didn’t feature in our original travel plans, but, as a consequence of our preference not to fly over the Middle East to reach Norway and the resulting change in carrier, it was an accidental two night destination. It was therefore not such a great disappointment when things didn’t work out as we had hoped.

SA 2026: Mannum

Sunset over the River Murray and Mannum

At the beginning of the year, we planned a nine day March caravan trip that included four nights in Wallaroo with the remainder somewhere else last minute. Unfortunately, we were ‘trumped’ by the price and availability of diesel. Not wanting to mortgage the house to pay for fuel and to risk being able to make our return journey, we changed our plans to a four night visit to Mannum.

New design

My last post let you know about my decision to continue posting about our adventures and a change in name to this site. This post introduces an updated layout and new design. I took the opportunity when moving the site to a different host to alter the design to fit in with the new logo and to sort a few aspects of the old design that I had never been happy with.

Borneo 2025: West Coast #2

Sunset at Tangun Aru beach

In this final post about our recent trip to Borneo, we travel back to Kota Kinabalu on the west coast of the island. We added these three nights so that we could explore the city in our own time. Our first task on arriving back to the hotel was to recover and re-arrange our cases before a light meal and an early night.

Borneo 2025: Rainforest #2

Fishing boats off Sandakan

Having completed one excellent tour, the start of our next one, returning to the rainforest, was a short flight away in Sandakan. We had originally booked an early morning flight to get to Sandakan for the start of the tour, but it was cancelled before we left Australia. This meant catching the next flight and missing the first activity of the tour. This was a visit to the Orangutan Rehabilitation Centre at Sepilok – as we had already been there, we were not too disappointed.

Borneo 2025: West Coast #1

Our stay at the Kinabalu Pine Resort on our way to Kota Kinabalu on the west coast was not the most comfortable for me as I had a very upset stomach. This did not stop me from admiring the morning view of the prominent Mount Kinabalu from our room balcony. At 4,095m high it is the highest mountain in Borneo.

Borneo 2025: Rainforest #1

Kinabatangan River

Our tour group of 24 was split into two, with each going to different rainforest lodges at Sakau on the Kinabatangan River. On the way we had a toilet stop at a service station, where sustaining chocolates and nuts were purchased by everyone. As our first introduction to the rainforest river, the crossing to the lodge lasted less than 10 minutes, our group being transported to the opposite bank of the river by two separate boats with the luggage arriving in a third.
